Beautiful Plants For Your Interior
Lakshani Perera
Hi, I am Lakshani Perera, born in 1997 in Sri Lanka. I migrated to Europe at the age of 16 with my family. My educational interests were rooted in International Business and Tourism Management, with higher education in Sales Management. I am also a certified Ayurvedic nutritionist.
The Corona pandemic became a turning point in my life. It led me to shift directions and begin research into the benefits of natural medicine and holistic alternatives to Western treatments. During this time, while living in the West, I remained deeply connected with family and friends back home.
Through countless conversations, I learned how natural herbs such as coriander and spices like Ceylon cinnamon, cloves, saffron, and pepper were used to prepare immunity-boosting drinks. These ingredients are naturally grown, found in almost every Sri Lankan home, and used daily in meals. This sparked my curiosity about Ayurvedic products and indigenous spices grown on my home soil.
These soul soothers heal as much as they revive, strengthen, and contribute to overall well-being. The secrets of blends and herbal teas date back centuries and have served our ancestors through many health challenges. These are truly gifts of the soil to the people of the land.
Currently, I continue to discover and research healing remedies from my homeland, Sri Lanka. Our kitchens conjure dishes infused with spices and enriched with flavor. However, modern lifestyles sometimes lead us to neglect these elements, resulting in meals with poor nutrition.
I realized that great meals depend on the ingredients, not the time spent preparing them. By stocking our kitchens with natural spices and herbs, or by drinking a cup of herbal tea daily, we naturally strengthen our immune system. Nutritional deficiencies often occur subtly, influenced by climate, age, and overall health, causing our well-being to decline unnoticed.
The daily use of natural remedies helps prevent this and supports a longer, healthier life. My curiosity to deepen my knowledge of Ayurveda and traditional Sri Lankan medicine led me to become a certified Ayurvedic nutritionist, and I now work as a consultant.
My love for my birth country drives me to support small farmers and traders who preserve tradition and culture. Belief begets belief — when natives plant herbs and spices, there is a spiritual knowledge passed through generations.
Finding the perfect ginger root or sourcing aromatic cardamom and cloves, harvested by scent at their peak season, is a deeply personal experience. I believe a piece of Sri Lanka lives across the world — consumed through food, drink, accessories, utensils, eco-friendly daily-use items, and experienced through flavor, taste, and convenience.
I also cherish sharing the artistic work of Sri Lankan batik designers. Though the process is slow and demanding, involving wax, fire, and patience, each piece is a unique work of art admired worldwide.
Our generation has forgotten that nature makes us complete. As a young entrepreneur, I was inspired to initiate Nivartana — a combination of herbs, spices, and handcrafts that sets a sustainable touchstone in my life.
Fostering Ceylon culture and traditions through an online platform by combining the most authentic Ceylonese products became a reality with the inception of Nivartana.
